A special room rate of $109 will be in effect for all players booking reservations before November 2, 2023.  The Washington Dulles Marriott Suites is an upscale airport hotel conveniently located near Washington Dulles International Airport, the National Air and Space Museum, the Reston Town Center, and the Dulles Expo Center.  The hotel offers a free airport shuttle, fitness room, and complimentary wifi in public areas and guest rooms. Parking is also free to hotel guests or players commuting each day to the tournament.

Covid 19 Policy (Updated 8/1/23) 

Due to encouraging statistics after recent major tournaments, we do not plan to require proof of vaccination for participation in any event. Players may rest assured that all staff members are fully vaccinated and that we will take precautions to provide a clean and safe environment for tournament play.

Events

This is an American Backgammon Tour

sanctioned event. All USBGF members who cash

in the Championship and Advanced Divisions

will earn ABT points.  All events will return 90% of

entries and 100% of side pools.  Clock settings for Championship ABT division and Open Jackpot will be 2 minutes and 30 seconds per point with a 12-second delay.  All other events will have clock settings of 2 minutes and 15 seconds per point with a 15-second delay. Any player running out of time will be granted a one-time extension of one minute.  CLICK HERE for the full schedule.

Open Division*   Entry Fee $400    Side Pool $100  

Single-elimination with progressive Consolation and progressive Last Chance. 11/9/5-Point matches. Clocks mandatory.

Advanced Division*  Entry Fee $200   Side Pool $50  

Single-elimination with progressive Consolation and progressive Last Chance. 9/7/5-Point matches.  Clocks are preferred, but not mandatory.  

​

Novice Division*  Entry Fee $20   (Non-ABT Event.  No Registration or ABT Fee assessed.)

Format and match lengths for this event will be determined by the number of entrants.

BMAB (Backgammon Masters Awarding Body)  

Begins on Thursday, November 16th with registration at 12:30 p.m.  CLICK HERE for

full details about entry fees and the format of the tourney.  Entry fees, hospitality

fees, and registration fees are separate from any event in The Capital Classic.

Open Masters Jackpot   Entry Fee $600   Side Pool $200

Single-elimination event. 11-point matches.  Clocks mandatory. Reentries permitted when available.

 

Advanced Jackpot   Entry Fee $300   Side Pool $100

Single-elimination, 9-point matches.  Limited to players who have not cashed at the Championship or Masters levels.  Entry is at the discretion of the Tournament Director and Tournament Advisory Committee.  Clocks preferred.  Reentries permitted when available.

Doubles   Entry Fee $200 per team.  Side Pool $100 per team.

Single-elimination.  7-point matches.  Clocks mandatory.  Reentries permitted when available.

​

Seniors    Entry Fee $50   

Single elimination.  7-point matches open to players age 60 and older.  Reentries permitted when available.

 

Juniors    Entry Fee $50   

Single elimination.  7-point matches open to players age 59 and under.  Reentries permitted when available.

Warm-up Tournament   Entry Fee $25   Side Pool $25

Begins on Thursday evening for players arriving early.  7-point matches with two matches guaranteed to all entrants.  This is not a true Double-Elimination format.​

 

DMP   Entry Fee $20

1-point matches begin on Thursday night and run all weekend.  Reentries are permitted and encouraged.

 

Miscellaneous Events

Numerous 4-player, 8-player jackpots and board tourneys ranging in entry fees will be available all weekend.

Please note:  Main events are denoted by an asterisk * and playing matches in ABT events always take precedence over any side event. Players should bring their board and a Bronstein clock if they are playing in clocked events.  A limited number of clocks will be available for use for a $20 deposit which will be refunded when the clock is returned to the registration desk.  The Championship, Advanced, Super Jackpot, Open Jackpot, Advance Jackpot, and Doubles are mandatory clocked events.

Registration $40

Registration is accepted online, by email, USPS, and on-site.  Please note that registration by mail with a personal check closes on November 3, 2023.  CLICK HERE to register online.  If registering online and paying by Paypal, Venmo, or Zelle, registrations will be accepted until November 10, 2023.  Any registration paid using the PayPal platform should be sent using the "Friends and Family" function.  Players are responsible for any fees deducted by a particular platform that prevents the organizer from receiving the full amount of the entry fee or side pool.

Online registration is available for the Championship Division, Advanced Division, Open Jackpot, Advanced Jackpot, and Doubles.  All other events will only be available by on-site registration with payment in full by cash.  CLICK HERE to register online.

Preregistering by email or mail requires a fully completed registration form.  At this time you may pay your entry fees and registration fees in full, or pay a minimum deposit of $40. International entries require no deposit.  Please enclose a check made out to Ed O'Laughlin and mail to:

Players will receive an email confirmation that their entry has been received.  If you only paid a deposit, the balance must be paid on-site in cash.  Checks will not be accepted on-site.

You may also register on-site and pay your complete entry fees during any open registration period.  Open registration on-site will be all day Thursday, November 16th,  Friday, November 17th, 9:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m., and Saturday, November 18th,  9 a.m.-10 a.m. 

​

All deposits from events not already started are fully refundable until 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023.
